Desert tortoise troubles blamed on ravens, other large birds

A former Nevada wildlife panelist says a case can be made that desert tortoises might not have been as threatened by human activities, such as development and livestock grazing, as biologists once thought. Instead, the real culprits appear to be ravens, magpies and large birds of prey.
