Thornton Dial 1928-2016

Artist Thornton Dial died on Monday, Jan. 25, in his Alabama home at age 87. The self-taught artist had numerous ties to Nashville, including gallery representation at The Arts Company, a Metro Arts-commissioned public sculpture in Edmondson Park, and a 2012 exhibit called Creation Story at the Frist. Dial's son Richard spoke of his father's relationship with Nashville in a statement to the Scene : Our family was honored to share our dad with the world.
