Merle Haggard

MERLE Haggard, who has died of pneumonia aged 79, was a giant of country music who celebrated outlaws and underdogs in bit hits such as Okie From Muskogee and Sing Me Back Home. A masterful guitarist, fiddler and songwriter as well as singer, he recorded for more than 40 years, releasing dozens of albums and number one hits.
