Haslam's Insure Tennessee dies in Senate
Nearly two years after Gov. Bill Haslam began negotiating a Medicaid expansion alternative, a Senate committee killed it before it could reach the full House or Senate for debate. By a 7-4 vote in special session, the Senate Health and Welfare Committee blocked the governor's Insure Tennessee proposal, an effort to leverage federal dollars to provide coverage to some 280,000 working Tennesseans caught in an insurance gap between Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
