Meeting, event center costs rise; groundbreaking set for fall

Though it has yet to be built, the cost of the city’s meeting and event center has increased.
At Monday’s Board of Commissioners meeting, City Project Manager Chuck Knowles said the construction industry has been hot lately. He cited statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which report that the average increase in non-residential building construction and materials is 8 to 10%.
