UH names founding dean of planned medical school

The University of Houston has named Dr. Stephen Spann, a long-time health-care educator and administrator, as founding dean of the medical school it hopes to start in 2020. UH President and Chancellor Renu Khator announced Spann's selection Monday, following a national search launched after regents voted in mid-November to create a College of Medicine. Spann has been serving as the proposed school's planning dean since fall 2015.
