Can Houston-area students be punished for protesting?

Thousands of students across the country walked out of their high schools Wednesday to demonstrate in favor of stricter gun laws after 17 people were shot and killed at Stoneman Douglas High School. Students can be punished for walking out, but other forms of student protest are protected.
