Broken water line in east Houston disrupts city

The hulking 96-inch pipe, installed 35 years ago to ferry close to half of Houston’s drinking water, erupted when a city contractor began digging to repair a “gradual leak” on the water line near Clinton Drive and East Loop 610, officials said, causing water to bubble onto a neighboring highway.
