Skywatch: Youngest exoplanet yet found hiding within observatory data

Astronomers have confirmed the youngest exoplanet detected so far, offering a rare glimpse into the earliest stages of planetary formation. The planet, known as Elias 2-24 b, is still actively gathering material from the disk of gas and dust surrounding its young host star, allowing scientists to study a giant planet while it is still growing.
