Hawaii island avoids a direct hit, but Lala still wreaks havoc

Hawaii island avoided a direct hit from Hurricane Lala Saturday by about 30 miles, but the storm still wreaked havoc across the island before weakening as it moved toward Oahu, where officials warned residents to prepare for worsening conditions today.
