DENVER (CBS4)– A reference to slavery will remain in Colorado’s constitution.Voters have said “no” to a ballot measure, Amendment T, that would have removed the language.The final ballots were tallied on Tuesday and the Secretary of State said the margin is not close enough to require a recount.The constitution prohibits slavery or involuntary servitude except as punishment for a crime — wording that proponents of the amendment claim was outdated.
