Junkins fire near Westcliffe burns over 16,000 acres, has destroyed five homes
A huge, destructive wildfire burning about 11 miles east of Westcliffe was sparked by a metal outbuilding that was blown into a power line.
The Junkins fire, which started early Monday morning in gusty winds, has destroyed five homes and 13 outbuildings, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the fire has scorched 16,312 acres and is 0 percent contained.
