Avalanche can’t keep up with Capitals, lose first game under Jared Bednar

WASHINGTON — The possession time and puck movement Colorado fancied in Monday’s overtime victory against defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh didn’t exist Tuesday night versus the reigning Presidents’ Trophy winner in Washington. Perhaps that had something to do with the schedule — certainly a tough back-to-back set for the Avalanche against the rested Capitals — but the Avs won’t dwell too much on their first loss under new coach Jared Bednar.
