Lupe Valdez Wins Democratic Primary Runoff For Governor, Will Face Abbott

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) – Former Dallas County sheriff Lupe Valdez has won the Democratic primary runoff for governor. She has become the first openly gay and Latina gubernatorial nominee in Texas history. She will face current Gov. Greg Abbott in November.
Valdez advanced despite losing the support of some Hispanic activists over her record on immigration and will be a heavy underdog against Republican Gov. Abbott in a state that hasn’t elected a Democrat for governor in nearly 30 ye
