Severe crash closes Route 8 in Derby

Route 8 in Derby is reopened after a serious crash closed the highway late this morning. Connecticut State Police had shut down the southbound lanes near exit 16 in Derby about 11:30 this morning. One who had severe injuries had to be extricated from their vehicle and was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital by Life Star air ambulance.  The highway was cleared and then closed again so troopers could take measurements for their crash investigation; the highway is now reopene
