Ortiz hits 500th homer as Red Sox face Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz has hit his 500th home run and is the 27th player to reach 500 homers.
Ortiz hit No. 499 on a 1-2 pitch from Matt Moore in the first inning of Saturday night’s game at Tampa Bay.
The designated hitter smacked a towering three-run shot into the right field stands for his 33rd homer this season.
Ortiz has eight homers in his last 14 games.
