Lightning strike causes fire in multi-family home in Hartford

HARTFORD — A lightning strike set off a roaring fire in the city’s South End Saturday night. It happened around 10:20 p.m. on West Preston Street. Fire crews first tried to battle the blaze on the third floor, but because it spread so quickly, they had to move to a defensive mode.
Three families were displaced, including 6 adults and 1 child. Hartford Fire Department Special Services Unit and the American Red Cross assisted with the relocation of the families.
