Charges Against Richard Lapointe Dismissed

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – A Superior Court judge has dismissed charges against Richard Lapointe, a mentally disabled former dishwasher who spent almost 26 years in prison after he was convicted of murder in the 1987 death of his wife’s 88-year-old grandmother.
The state Supreme Court overturned that conviction in March, ruling that prosecutors failed to disclose notes by a police officer that suggest the crime occurred at a time when Lapointe had an alibi.
