Bomb squad called after possible explosive device discovered in Vernon

VERNON — Police in Vernon set up a perimeter Tuesday morning at South Street near Knollwood Drive following the discovery of what was thought to be a blasting cap.
Police evacuated homes in the area.
Police said construction workers unearthed a blasting cap under a road around 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Hartford Bomb Squad was called to investigate and it determined that the device was, in fact, not a blasting cap.
