Columbus safety forces want to recruit students from city schools into cadet programs that would provide bridge jobs until they are eligible for police and fire academies. The cadet programs are among several ideas posed in draft plans developed by Columbus' police and fire divisions after Mayor Andrew J. Ginther called on them to double the diversity within their ranks during the next 10 years.
