Unemployment benefits changes would 'dismantle' anti-poverty program, advocates say

Advocates for Ohio’s poor urged GOP-House leaders to scrap a bill that would slash jobless benefits from 26 weeks to 12 in some cases and none for some part-time and season workers. House Bill 394, a sweeping overhaul of the state’s unemployment system, goes farther than any other state to limit benefits to the unemployed, according to Advocates for Ohio’s Future, a coalition of nearly 500 health and human services organizations.
