Tiberi loses out on powerful committee chairmanship
A Texas lawmaker Wednesday defeated Rep. Pat Tiberi in his bid to chair the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, denying the Ohioan a chance to head a powerful committee in the wake of House Speaker John Boehner’s departure. Rep. Kevin Brady, the second senior Republican on the tax-writing committee and chairman of its subcommittee on Health, sought the chairmanship earlier this year, but pulled out of the race after Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., sought the position.
