Thieves target car keys to steal keyless ignition vehicles

Columbus police crime analysts said a crime trend suggests car owners need to do a better job of keeping their car keys in a safe place. Analysts tracked stolen car reports for the month of April in the area designated Zone 1,which encompasses most of north and northeast Columbus.The reports reveal about 45 cars were stolen last month, and crime analysts said about 65 percent of those thefts occurred because the victims left their keys unattended on a restaurant table or counter.
