Theodore Decker: Development stripping historical character from N. High

A visit to the Union Station arch, that ornate stone vestige of old Columbus now surrounded by the brick and glass of the Arena District, had me thinking about a Wild West movie set. The fictional frontier town’s mercantile, hotel and watering hole appear authentic from the dirt-track Main Street, but to walk through the saloon’s swinging doors is to be in on the ruse. The place is nothing but facades, propped up by raw lumber and brash trickery.
