Supermoon might wash out annual Geminids display

Each December, the Geminid meteor shower puts on a dependable cosmic show. Until this year. Visibility will peak late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, but likely will be thwarted by this season’s second serving of a supermoon, a period during which the moon appears larger and brighter because it is at its closest point to Earth, or perigee. That's because the moon travels around Earth in an egg-shaped orbit.
