Social workers replacing lawyers as guardians in Franklin County

Some of Franklin County’s most-vulnerable residents, whose lives once were overseen by lawyers, now have social workers acting as their guardians. What began as a proposal by Probate Judge Robert G. Montgomery to fix a glaring problem in the county’s guardianship system became a reality in recent months with the creation of the Guardianship Service Board, the first program of its kind in Ohio.
