COLUMBUS - The first newborn of 2017 at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a northern snake-necked turtle.From the recent clutch, four turtles were hatched: one on December 29, 31, and January 1.All hatchlings weigh about 9 grams and grow up to 10 pounds as an adult.The northern snake-necked turtle is named by its long neck by retracting inside its shell wrapping tightly around the turtle's body for protections.This newborn turtle is one of two cared for at the Columbus Zoo.
