Sherrod Brown warns government shutdown could affect food stamps

A government shutdown could take food off the table for up to 1.7 million Ohioans who receive federal food stamp benefits, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown said today. “Millions of hard-working American families could be left without a lifeline” if funding for food stamps, officially known as the Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program, dries up Oct. 1, Brown said in conference call. “We have seven days left to figure out how to fund the government.”
