Senate approves bill defunding Planned Parenthood
The Senate bill to defund Planned Parenthood passed today with a 23-10 vote after more than 20 individuals from across the state provided testimony earlier in the day both for and against the bill. If it becomes law, the bill would redirect state and federal funds away from organizations that perform or promote abortions in the state, namely Planned Parenthood. In the last fiscal year, the state allotted $3.7 million to Planned Parenthood, including Medicaid reimbursements.
