Program allows people to exchange food scraps for natural fertilizer

The life of the Franklin County Landfill is estimated to last about 49 more years, according to the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio.But that life could be extended if more people starting diverting their food scraps out of the garbage.The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio estimates nearly 13% of all materials landfilled by residents and businesses in Franklin County is food waste.The amount of food landfilled each year in central Ohio it says represents 192 million meals being wasted.
