Powell businesses invite residents to make a wish upon a tree

The hopes of the children — and even some adults — are written as wishes in black marker on shipping tags and hung on a maple tree outside the Santa Cruz Candy Co. in downtown Powell. For every playful thought, the Wishing Tree seemingly holds another "that brings a tear to your eye," said store manager Eric Witt, mentioning one youngster's wish to talk to a deceased parent and another's desire to see the high-profile shootings stop.
