Police training is specific on deadly force
During a vigil for Tyre King, his sister asked the question many adults in the crowd were wrestling with: Did a Columbus police officer have to kill the 13-year-old? Couldn't the officer have used something less than lethal force? “Ty did not deserve to die,” said Marshay Caldwell, also 13. “He might have deserved to get shot in the leg or something — he knew he shouldn’t have been doing that — but he didn’t deserve to die."
