Outdoors notebook | Five nabbed for taking ginseng from Ohio state park

The ginseng root is supposed to have curative properties, particularly on the gatherer’s wallet, but digging up the medicinal herb on state land can have serious side effects. Five Muskingum County residents ranging in age from 18 to 26 earned five days each in jail and a collective $2,850 in fines and court costs after they were nabbed for digging ginseng at Blue Rock State Park.
