Only male turkeys gobble, but it’s their “beard” that makes them easily identifiable — not to mention legal — to Ohio hunters. The beard, which dangles from the turkey’s chest, typically is 8 or 9 inches long, though it can be longer or shorter. The longest beard on a dead turkey was recorded in Texas at 22½ inches.
