Ohio readies for 213th birthday

Run out and get a ton of birthday candles — 213 of them — to celebrate Ohio Statehood Day. Statehood Day is held annually in observance of March 1, 1803, when Ohio officials conducted their first business after President Thomas Jefferson approved Ohio's entry as the 17th state.
