Next Columbus police or fire chief could come from elsewhere

Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther wants the ability to hire the city's next police and fire chiefs from outside those divisions' existing ranks. Civil Service Commission Executive Director Amy DeLong said the changes were made as part of regular reviews of those positions and that the city has had a study since 2010 that recommended them.
