Muslims deal with backlash from those who perpetuate violence

When news of a mass shooting breaks, a thought crosses the minds of many Muslims in central Ohio: I hope the gunman isn’t Muslim. I hope his name isn’t Mohamed. It’s a reaction bred by the fear and exasperation of Muslims who find themselves defending their religion — and sometimes themselves — when a Muslim is suspected of a heinous crime.
