More than 700 acres of Wayne National Forest leased for fracking

Federal officials auctioned more than 700 acres of the Wayne National Forest on Tuesday for eventual fracking, over the protests of environmental groups. The Bureau of Land Management netted about $1.7 million in bids for oil and gas leasing rights across 19 parcels of federal land, all but two of which are in the Wayne’s Marietta Unit in southeast Ohio.
