Launch that squash across the field: Trebuchet competition tests high school teams

Saturday marked the third year of the Picktown Throwdown, in which teams of high-schoolers try to build the trebuchet — don’t call it a catapult; engineers get very upset — that can launch a 4-pound pumpkin the farthest. Fourteen teams from three high schools competed in three rounds at Pickerington Central High School.
