Laser eye at Delaware overpass dubbed ‘can opener’ to keep big rigs in line

DELAWARE, Ohio — Conventional signs haven’t worked. Nor have $1,000 fines. The CSX railroad overpass known as “the can opener,” on W. Central Avenue just west of downtown, continues to sheer off the tops of unsuspecting trucks driven by inattentive drivers. So on Monday, the Delaware City Council unanimously approved grant funding to install a system that uses a laser beam to measure truck height and give drivers a visual slap in the face before they try to go through.
