Japanese traditions for yearly celebration focus on make-ahead food

For Jennifer Farkas, however, the holiday wouldn't be complete without a table set with lacquered boxes containing symbolic Japanese food. Farkas isn't Japanese or of Japanese descent, but she spent years living in the Asian country both as a child and an adult, and she enjoys keeping the customs of her adopted country.
