IRS crackdown seeks deterrence with tax-time prosecutions

It’s tax season, when the bow-tied guy urges America to “Get its billion back” and the late-night hawker offers cash now if you just can’t wait for that refund. Another group also is stepping up its tax-related advertising, in a manner of speaking. It’s no coincidence that the number of Internal Revenue Service cases on the federal court calendar dramatically increases at this time of year.
