Groups want lawmakers to stop creating new crimes, adding criminal sentences

Ohio lawmakers need to curb tough-on-crime sentiment until a potentially sweeping overhaul of the state’s criminal code is complete, leaders of four groups said today. Legislators are undermining efforts to reform sentencing laws and decrease prison and jail populations by continuing to introduce bills to create new crimes and enhance criminal sentences, the groups said.
