Groups fight plans for fracking in Wayne National Forest

About 1,600 acres of the Wayne National Forest will be auctioned off on Tuesday for oil and gas drilling. That's not unusual. In fact, there already are more than 1,200 conventional drilling rigs across the 240,000-acre forest. This time, however, the leases are specifically for fracking, a process in which as many as 5 million gallons of water, sand and chemicals are injected down wells to fracture deep shale and free trapped gas and oil.
