Franklin Township plans cuts if 4th try for fire levy fails

The stakes are high in Franklin Township, which in November will try for the fourth time to pass a fire levy. If voters reject it, the township will lay off more than a third of its firefighters and close one of its two firehouses to cut expenses from the Fire Department’s $4 million annual budget, not quite half of the township’s overall $9 million budget.
