Franklin County Jail lacks medications to ease withdrawal
When an opiate addict is booked into the Franklin County jail, the inmate receives drugs that can help calm the shakes, restlessness and urge to vomit that come with withdrawal. Doctors who work in the jail, though, do not prescribe the powerful medications that work on the receptors in the brain that trigger the high from a heroin hit and thus head off withdrawal.
