Former Mount Sterling official indicted on theft, racketeering charges

The former village administrator of Mount Sterling in Madison County was indicted today with 30 felonies, including a first-degree felony racketeering charge. Joe Johnson, who resigned his village job in December, is charged with a single count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, which is the first degree felony and with 22 counts of theft in office, two counts of money laundering, single counts each of theft and tampering with records and three counts of failing to file tax returns.
