Former educator celebrates her 104th birthday

It’s a happy 104th birthday to Mildred Newcomb. At her nursing home, she got cards and presents and a birthday crown. Our photographer asked her secret to reaching 104 years old. “You have to be 103,” she said.Newcomb was and still is an educator. She retired as head of the English department of Ohio Wesleyan University and was in her 50s when she pursued her doctorate. Every now and then still teaches at the nursing home.
