Few sign up for Franklin County's emergency alert system

An emergency alert system that Franklin County launched last year hasn't taken off. To date, 6,510 people have signed up to receive emergency alerts on their phones through Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Now the agency is hiring a marketing firm to spread the word about the system. County Commissioners approved spending about $27,000 to market it at a meeting Tuesday.
