Fairfield County Fair set to open without historic grandstand

LANCASTER — Visitors to next week’s Fairfield County Fair will see a memorial display filling in the empty spot where a weathered white clapboard grandstand stood overlooking the fairgrounds for more than a century. The wooden grandstand was reduced to ash in a fire early on Sept. 24 that authorities say was arson. The memorial display to be set up where the grandstand stood will likely include a photograph and description of its history.
